Chicken of Tomorrow Program Announced at Maryland
Details of the 1949 Chicken of Tomorrow program were announced by Dr. Morley A Jull head of the Poultry Department at the University of Maryland and chairman of the Maryland committee. The contest runs March 14 to June 29 and is open to Maryland breeders 4 H and FFA members. Entries receive market price for birds. contestants may enter 100 unsexed chicks. Eggs ship March 13. chicks begin April 4. 15 cockerels delivered June 27 for dressing June 28 and judging June 29 by an out of state official. The best entry wins a state championship trophy from Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. Ribbons and certificates awarded. enrollment due by April 15 with Wade H Rice. Regional contests planned for 1950 and a national contest in 1951.

The Easton Memorial Hospital Junior Auxiliary met February 28 at Mrs. T. C. Fleetwood’s home. Hostesses were Mrs. Fleetwood, Mrs. William Fleetwood, and Mrs. K. Thomas Everagain. In the Eastern Shore Soccer League first round play off Denton Club and Ridgely fought to a 5 to 5 overtime tie at Ridgely. Ridgely led early with Rabbit Spence scoring in four minutes and A Bennington adding a second goal. Denton tied with Bob DeFord and Merriken Baynard Shahan scoring. in overtime Winstead put Ridgely ahead briefly before Collins set up Merriken for the final equalizer. The playoff moves to Ridgely on March 13.

Plane Crashes Near Centreville
A light one engine airplane nosed over into a muddy field near Centreville on Sunday afternoon. Edward Thomas Lord, farm manager, died at Easton Memorial Hospital about 15 minutes after arrival. Pilot Roland S. Patchett remained critically injured with multiple wounds. The passenger, Lord, died. the pilot was trapped and later freed by Centreville firefighters. The crash occurred near Walnut Grove Farm as wind caused the nose down.

Four volunteer fire companies answered a Hillsboro call Sunday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cahall. The rear of the house burned and smoke damaged the interior, but the main structure was saved by quick firefighting. Insurance reportedly covers the loss. Queen Anne Hillsboro joined Denton Cordova and Easton in the response.
