Agronomy Field Day At College Park Attracts Farmers
The University of Maryland agronomy field day at the Experimental Farm near College Park on June 19 attracted farmers from across Maryland and beyond. Attendees toured plots with agronomy staff, learned about drought varieties and soil conditioners, and heard about phosphate availability, wheat and oat varieties, and the need for careful crop rotation and seed bed preparation. Demonstrations covered calibrating crop sprayers, cost-saving spraying, and the benefits of proper combine adjustments to avoid grain waste. Preston Labor Camp operations and local extension service notes were also provided, along with a report that Maryland tourists paid 2 581 000 in gasoline taxes in 1951.

Banks Urged To Qualify For Making Crop Loans
The Maryland Production and Marketing Administration urges Maryland banks to sign lending agency agreements with the Commodity Credit Corporation for farm loans on stored crops. The program follows CCC policy to use usual channels of trade. If banks do not participate, county PMA committees may issue drafts on CCC and keep loan documents locally. Eligible crops include wheat, corn, barley, rye, oats, soybeans and Kobelespedera, requiring storage in approved on farm structures or warehouses.
