Pasture Tours Promote Efficient Dairy Roughage Programs
Two pasture tours in Greensboro and Federalsburg drew about forty Caroline County dairymen to four farms June 7 and 8 to observe rotational grazing, silage use, and disciplined breeding. Hosts Ebling Hammer Williams Meredith showcased three or more field divisions, silos, and deliberate breeding strategies, yielding herd butterfat averages around 400 pounds per cow or more. The program, run by the Dairy Herd Improvement Association with University of Maryland Extension, aims to improve milk production through diversified pasture, silage, and hay systems. Daddy Jenks, longtime Maryland 4-H figure, dies at 74. funeral held June 12 in College Park.

Maryland Farm Front this Week on Soil Bank Plans
Farmers should consult their county ASC before joining the soil bank program as each farmer must sign an agreement on practices. The Agriculture Department will speed up information to counties so farmers can decide before 1957. Part of the soil bank offers two payments: setup costs and an annual payment per acre for the conservation reserve, averaging about $10.00 per acre nationally.
Ample Water Needed For Irrigation Systems
University of Maryland extension engineer A V Krewatch stresses a dependable near crop water supply solves a major issue. He adds that soil, operating costs, and crop value must be weighed, and land should be well drained for irrigation feasibility.
