Lions Install New Officers as Benton Elects Leaders
In Denton seven 4-H girls from Caroline County showcased the Electric Project Demonstration Contest at Choptank Electric Cooperative on June 14. Naomi Fuchs and Ellen Wheedleton earned top demonstrator honors with full Club Week scholarships. Judy Thornton led a demonstration but is ineligible for scholarship due to age. Awards and ribbons followed, with judges Mrs. Nelson Covey and Mrs. Edward Carney officiating. Cesar Coalla Jr was installed as president of the Denton Lions Club, with a slate of officers including Walter Turner and James P Hill at Garland Lake venue.

The 1954 Census of Agriculture preliminary report shows Caro line County farmers operating 1,396 farms with total product sales of 10 424 165. Crops sold amount to 3 575 291 including field crops 2 579 994 fruits and nuts 813 405 and horticultural specialties 9 757. Livestock and products sold total 6 823 832 with dairy 1 474 258 poultry 4 766 071 and other livestock 582 703. Forest products sold reach 25 012. Third Polio Shots Now Available In This County
The Maryland State Department of Health says polio vaccine supplies have caught up and third shots are available in Caroline County. Any resident who had a second shot at least six months ago may receive the third shot. Private doctors have vaccine, or the Caroline County Health Department will offer injections each Thursday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m., with options for first or second shots and third shots given after the required intervals. Also listed is Pvt. Charles Mr. Griffith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland P. Griffith of Denton, a radar operator in Battery A of the 516th Antiaircraft Artillery Missile Battalion at Selfridge Air Force Base, Mich. He entered the Army in February, trained at Fort Jackson, and is a 1953 graduate of Caroline High School, Denton. he previously worked as a barber at Shu Felt Barber Shop in Federalsburg.
