Rieck Named Maryland Soil District Supervisor
Three new members joined the Maryland State Soil Conservation Committee on June 1. William R. Powel of Ellicott City and Harry H. Rieck of Preston were appointed district supervisors for one year, while Dr Gordon M Cairns, Dean of Agriculture at the University of Maryland, became a permanent ex officio member. The amendments to the Soil Conservation Districts Law of 1937, approved by the 1951 General Assembly, authorized these changes and took effect June 1.

Henderson soldier Pfc. Ralph E. Swafford serves with the 77th Field Artillery Battalion of the First Cavalry Division in Korea, where 105millimeter howitzers fire at Chinese forces and sustain heavy enemy losses. The unit often delivers up to 3,000 shells in a 24hour period, while other listed local residents are named for a church meeting and a class gathering.

Lions Miniature Golf Course Opens Today
The Denton Lions Club unveils an 18 hole miniature golf course at the corner of 5th Avenue and Market Street, opening Friday June 8, 1951 at 7:00 p m. Volunteers built it with local support, lighting poles from Eastern Shore Public Service, and ground leased by Sherwood Brothers of Baltimore. Operation runs evenings and Saturday afternoons, weather permitting, closed Sundays.
