Maryland Farm Front This Week Spells Need For More Storage
Maryland farmers are urged to assess storage needs after a strong harvest. George B. Reeves, chairman of the Maryland ASC, notes loans up to four percent of cost are available via banks or county ASC offices for storage structures and drying equipment. Eligible parties include owner-operators, tenants, landlords, or producer partnerships. Loans span four years for storage and three years for drying, with storage loans potentially amortizable over five years for tax purposes. The July 1 crop report shows a 3.4 billion bushel corn crop, oats near a record, rye up 15 percent, and soybeans likely to reach record acreage. Flaxseed is about 4% higher than last year.

No Comment No Comment, Defense and Business Clash
Walter Chamblin Jr. argues that attacks on Howard I. Young, head of American Zinc, Lead and Smelting, over his Korea era government service aim to drive businessmen from defense roles. He cites a Comptroller General report and Senate hearings, praising Young's commitment to expanding zinc production and urging caution against anti-business campaigns that would hinder mobilization and national needs.
