Reckless Driving Charge Made In 3 Accidents

Four reckless driving charges filed after four weekend accidents. Frank Duncan of Darby Pa. hit Melvin Nichols of Greensboro when Duncan turned left on Route 311 causing $200 damage. Leroy Tingle of Greenwood collided with Hall Morris near Denton on Route 404. Tingle charged after his car rolled into a ditch with $300 damage. George Hignutt of Denton struck James Edge of Smyrna on Route 313. Hignutt charged for reckless driving and failing to stop. Alfred Tunnell of Millsboro caused a ditch on Route 404 after improper passing. $500 damage.

Maryland-Delaware Award Winning Churches

The Maryland Delaware Rural Church of the Year award goes to Baptist Church of LaVale near Cumberland for Outstanding Progress. minister Rev C F Frith. The church earned a 300 cash prize plus 200 as runner up in the six state Middle Atlantic area. Other MD Delaware winners cited for commendable progress include St Mary's Evangelical Lutheran Silver Run Hancock Methodist Downsville Christian. Citations and smaller awards went to Ebenezer Mt Airy Hart's Northeast Hopewell Port Deposit St John Seaford and Broomes Island Pilgrim Holiness Church.

The Pet Milk Company's evaporated milk plant in Greensboro marks 35 years of continuous operation since beginning receipts on July 5, 1920 totaling 5,000 pounds. Current capacity reaches 750,000 pounds of milk processed daily.

4 H Girls Hold Dream of Fashions Style Revue at School

Caroline County 4 H Girls presented their annual Style Revue at Caroline High School in Denton last Tuesday evening. The Dream of Fashions theme featured a program of performances, pageantry, and 52 garments judged for construction by local volunteers. Seventeen girls participated in the display under guidance of leaders from the Little Homemaker’s Club, with Ruth Ann Wharton ill and Betty Sutton serving as Dreamer in the narrative.

Girl Scouts Set Annual Fund Drive Across Peninsula

The Peninsula Council led by Ogden Briggs of Oxford announces an August 28 to September 10 campaign with a $30,110 goal to fund expanded field staff camp sites and leadership training. The council covers seven counties with 150 troops in 35 towns and about 2414 members. A July 26 meeting at the Denton council office at 8 p.m. will organize district plans.

Congressman Edward T. Miller reports that the Baltimore District Office of the Post Office Department has reviewed the possible consolidation of the Henderson Maryland rural route with nearby points and decided no consolidation action will be taken at this time.

Officer Killed In Rear End Collision Near Harrington

Lt Col Robert L Jimison a Fort Meade Maryland officer 41 died after a rear end collision on US Route 13 near Harrington Delaware. His wife Catherine 39 survived with head and arm injuries. Arthur Burd 39 of Wilmington Delaware faced a manslaughter charge with bail set at 1500 dollars.

Black and White Show Set for August 4 in Federalsburg

Holstein breeders from Dorchester Talbot and Caroline counties prepare 60 top animals for a Black and White Show at Chambers Park Federalsburg on August 4. Twenty five exhibitors, adult 4 H and F F A classes, a fitting contest, and trophies plus model Holsteins are planned with Allie Messer Montgomrey County as judge. Step Father Shoots Girl Then Ends Own Life

A 17 year old Federalsburg girl Elizabeth B Kelson was shot in the right side by her step father George R Westbrook 52 a former New Jersey police man who then killed himself in their home on Denton Road Two miles north of Federalsburg The girl was taken to Memorial Hospital Easton Westbrook died from a personal safety related wound The shooting followed a quarrel over the girl s intended marriage Westbrook and Kelson were alone in the house Mrs Westbrook was tending a new gift shop The couple had been dating for about three months A marriage license had been issued to Miss Kelson and Leroy Hill 22 of Federalsburg No motive was given Westbrook had lived in Federalsburg about three years He was born in Branchville New Jersey and had 18 years on the police force He also led musical bands Burial took place in Branchville New Jersey

Wilmington Pastor To Be At Vesper Service Sunday

The Rev. Paul E. McCoy, pastor of St. Pauls Methodist Church Wilmington, will speak at the Harmony Mill Pond Vesper Service on July 24. Chaplain Lloyd B. Troutman former pastor of Caroline County Methodist churches has arrived at Nouasseur Air Depot French Morocco to assume new duties. He resides at Fedala twelve miles from Casablanca and entered service on March 22 1953 after attending the USAF Chaplain School at Fort Slocum New York.
