Agricultural Deferments Are Only Temporary Ones
Colonel Henry C. Stanwood of Maryland State Selective Service warns farmers and workers about misinterpretations of Agricultural Occupational Deferments. He explains II C deferments apply only when farm production is essential to national health and safety, not for owning a farm or being a lifelong farmhand. Deferments do not exempt service, as most registrants remain liable until age 35, and local boards may seek authority to send II C registrants for physicals to clarify future civilian status and the ongoing call to service.
