4-H Girls Rally Planned for Camp Mardela
Frances Fisher of Hillsboro and Joan Morgan of Denton led Caroline 4-H Girls in planning for the Rally at Camp Mardela on Saturday April 23. Virginia Kerns of Greensboro assists with program plans and Mrs Nelson Covey of Federalsburg will arrange volunteer judges for exhibits. Ellen Wheedleton of Preston coordinates a Camp Mardela tour as a Rally feature, with a planning meeting at 2:30 p m on April 17 for Connie Stoops Sandra Coulbourne and other 4-H Girls to lead tour groups.

In 1931 Denton’s Rotary Club entered its second quadrennium with Harry H. Nuttle as president and Dr. Paul E. Titsworth as 34th District Governor. Delegates worldwide gathered in Honolulu for the Rotary International Convention as 3,500 cities celebrated the movement’s anniversary. The Denton club planned a year of service from the Chesapeake Bay to school community links, including a 625 tree planting program and town beautification efforts led by charter member J. Roland Chaffinch.

Onetime Almshouse Annex Sold To Denton Antique Dealer
The colonial home of the late Charles G. Dukes and Miss M. Louise Dukes near Denton was sold to W. Henry Brown of Denton. Brown and family will move mid April. Mrs. Brown plans to sell antiques from the brick house once part of the county almshouse. The piece of land, six acres known as Lloyd's Regulation, lies near the Denton road to Potter's Landing.

Three Auto Crashes In Caroline Last Week End
Three separate auto crashes are reported in Caroline last weekend. On March 19 in Ridgely Glenn Foster backed into Samuel Boyce on Main Street causing $175 damage and facing license charges while Boyce faced reckless driving. Near Marydel on Route 311 Donald Vincent collided with Edward Warren, Vincent’s car then left the road and Warren spun. Vincent charged with failing to drive right of center. damage $750. At High and Sixth Streets Norman Harris struck a parked car owned by Morgan Akers. Harris charged with reckless driving and alcohol impairment. Akers cited for illegal parking. Total damage reported about $990.

Eight bridge parties are planned as the spring project four on Friday April 15 at eight oclock and four on Saturday April 23 at one oclock at homes of committee chairmen. Tickets cost $1.00.

Robbery at Will's Sporting Goods Store
A break in occurred Tuesday of last week at Will's Sporting Goods. A back window was removed to gain entry and a H W 22 caliber target pistol along with about 36 boxes of ammunition were taken. The rear entry was left ajar and a front door was used during the getaway. Part of the ammunition was recovered nearby.

Quillen to Assume New Duties at Denton National Bank
Denton National Bank names Clark Quillen as general bookkeeper today. Quillen, a Denton National director since 1946, formerly ran a Goldsboro general store after earlier work in banking. Caroline County Historical Society announces new committees led by Max Chambers with a spring banquet planned in Denton on May 6.

Judge H Roland Towers Dies Suddenly At Home
Judge H Roland Towers longtime Caroline County official and Chief Judge of the Orphans Court died March 28 at his Harmony home after a heart attack. A Democratic leader and former county commissioner, he served as chief judge from 1948 until his death and was a Past Master of Preston Lodge. He is survived by his widow, son, grandchildren, sisters, and brother. Funeral services were held at Frampton Funeral Home with interment in Linchester Cemetery.

John E Towers Burned To Death In His Home
John E Towers aged 79 of Reliance Road near Federalsburg died when his house burned Tuesday at 3 am. His wife Martha and son J Roland escaped. Mrs Towers suffered second degree facial and hand burns and was treated at Memorial Hospital Easton. Towers appeared to have died in his bed as the home burned.
