Reunion of Sixth Regiment Holds First Annual Meeting

The first annual reunion of the Sixth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, veterans of the Spanish American War, will be in Fostoria on October 16. About 600 Northwestern Ohio veterans are expected. An informal meeting in the city elected D A Lynch for arrangements, with Company M from Defiance enlisted. the plan includes muster by old units, a march and dress parade.

Dynamite Scare Hits Town During Store Move

During the transfer of goods from the old to the new A M Minsel drug store location a box of detonating cartridges was left outside for days. Curious locals learned caps were stolen for noise making, prompting mothers to fear an Independence Day disaster. Authorities confiscated the caps to stop the danger.

Death of Emanuel Mettler a Defiance resident

Emanuel Mettler died Saturday at his Kentner street home after an illness began in May. A Swiss-born machinist by trade, he worked 25 years at Defiance Machine Works and was active in his church and the National Union. He leaves a widow Elizabeth Bernhardt and daughters Mrs. W. C. Holgate and Lydia. three children preceded him. Funeral at his home and German Methodist church with interment in Riverside.

College YMCA to Get New Weston Hall Building

A rally at Defiance College spurs a fundraising push to raise 1500 dollars for YMCA rooms in the upcoming Weston Hall. The plan includes a banquet with ten dollar tickets and pledges of 1000 dollars toward the goal, plus strategies to raise the remaining 500. Weston Hall will house administration, six recitation rooms, an eight room gym, and an 800 seat auditorium.

Funeral Procession For Frank Bashore Led By Knights Templars

Thirty seven Knights Templars lined the funeral of Frank Bashore in Paulding with Defiance Commandery conducting services, seven knights present from the city. Citizens Opera House to remain theater in Defiance

The Citizens Opera House in Defiance will stay as a theatre after purchase at sheriff's sale by The Citizens National Bank of Tiffin. Renovations will refurnish and redecorate, add new carpets and walks, and improve exterior woodwork and sidewalks. No opening date yet. manager plans undecided and sale possible later.
