A group from Defiance travels to Bowling Green for an oratorical and field sports contest. Defiance places high in the oratorical division with Miss Mabel Johnson, Donald Switzer, and Miss Alma J. The County Institute of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union met May 8 at 9 30 a m in the M E church Hicksville. Papers on legislative work and juvenile courts sparked discussion. The afternoon featured an illustrated talk, a study of search and seizure laws, and a medal contest won by Mrs Jackson.

Bids opened Monday and President C D Whitney awarded the contract to grade 13 1 2 miles between Maumee and Neapolis. This marks the first move in building the Toledo to Defiance line. Whitney will not disclose entry plans but work will be pushed from now on.

Thousands watched Sunday as police and forensics searched the Auglaize river behind the cemetery for Mrs. John McMillen believed to have drowned herself after a quarrel with her husband. Farmer Killed In Pennsylvania Freight Accident
Frank Gerhardteoin, a 35 year old farmer, was killed by a Pennsylvania freight yesterday. A whisky battle was found nearby and his body was cut in half.
