Man Struck and Bound on Rail Line Near Clinton Street

Charles Kimple, 19, son of Frederick Kimpel of 1102 Grove Street, was found with hands tied behind and feet crossed to rails, a rope around his neck, after being struck from behind by a large man near the B&O track east of Clinton. He recalls nothing of the assault, suspects a Toledo man, and a warrant for John Brown on assault was issued as police investigate.

Community society notes of May events and receptions

Ars W Lambert and Mr W 8 Hall hosted a large meeting of the Foreign Missionary Society of St Pauls M E church with fine program and refreshments. Knights of Columbus gave a banquet and smoker with speeches by Rev J F Collin W J Bohannon and E W Costello. Bridge clubs hosted by Mrs C P Harley Miss Converse and Mrs John C Vandenbroek held trophies and guest favors. A Presbyterian church benefit reception at the Wood home drew social and financial success. Salmagundi club met with Mrs E R Phelps and Miss Helen Phelps, featuring Colonial Dames discussion and solos by Miss O Nell Krotz and Miss Larah Winn.

Quiet Toledo Wedding Seither Sheridan Tie in Logansport

Leonard William Seither youngest son of Mr and Mrs Henry Seither and Miss Agnes Theresa Sheridan were quietly married on Tuesday April 30 in Logansport Indiana. Rev J P White officiated at the home of Mr and Mrs W S Richardson with few intimate friends present. The bride wore a sunset brown traveling suit and the couple left for Indianapolis afterward with a reception planned by Mrs Williams and Mrs Thomas Sheridan. They will reside with the groom’s parents on Holgate Avenue Defiance.

Mrs Decker Dead Pioneer of Allen Township Dies at 89

Mrs Minerva Dull Decker, a long time Allen township resident, died at age 89. Born in Clifford county Pennsylvania on July 21, she married Mahlon Decker March 16, 1836. Funeral is Saturday at 10 am at United Brethren church Van Buren, with Rev Dove officiating. interment in Van Buren cemetery. She was mother to James Decker and left seven children.

Shrine pilgrimage draws thousands to Carey for Virgin feast

Thousands from across the country attended the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey for the patroness feast. A procession led by 35 priests, a high mass, and sermons drew about 2,500 as faithful prayed rosaries and the litany. Defiance attendees are listed, and the co fraternity reports 1,000 healings this year. The society plans a new shrine costing 75,000 to be erected next year.

The last rites were conducted Thursday at 2 PM in St Marys Catholic Church by Rev Father Colling for Marie Bonita Smith. A large Toledo and local attendance sent abundant floral tributes to the bereaved parents. The board of education met in regular session with all members present except Smith. Superintendent Reynolds report read and accepted. Permission granted for Syl Garver to use the auditorium for an entertainment benefiting drill corps of girls for the Spanish American veterans encampment. East and south ward windows to be screened and trees protected with 50 feet of lawn hose. Clerk Gorman reported a treasury balance of 11 522.70 apportioned to tuition fund contingent bond and interest. Bills allowed including teachers payroll janitor payroll standard oil gas. Mrs. John Schondel and Dr. and Mrs. G. E. Wine in the city. A marriage license issued to Paul Diemer and Emma Foss of Highland township. Boys at the dam reported a 125 pound haul of catfish. Earl C. Couch and Beatrice left for Attica to visit his 97-year-old father. Praecipe for witnesses to grand jury on the 15th in simple alleged outrage. Mrs. E. M. Brady and Miss ONeil Krotz returned home after visits. W. A. Kehnast H D Bokop Chas Behringer and Jacob Faber left for New York en route to Germany.

Paris Sightseeing and Letters From a 1907 Trip

An oral travelogue from April 17 1907 describes a Paris stroll from Rue de Clichy to Trinity Church and the Louvre with buses and boat trips, notes on Notre Dame and the Garden de Plantes, and a fond tone about English and French society plus family letters praising adventure at sea and visits to London's South Kensington Museum and Hampton Court. The entry also mentions Mrs Henry Seither’s May wedding trip, a child’s injury, local business sales, a German theatre planned for the 16th, and various court notices and civil matters in Bluffton and surrounding towns.
