Defiance County Endorses W Kirtley for Public Works Board

The Defiance Republicans present William Kirtley Jr as candidate for the Ohio Public Works Board at the Cleveland state convention May 27 and 28. Tiffin Township Boy Benny Myers Killed by Lightning

Benny Myers, a resident near the Children's Home in Tiffin Township, was struck by a bolt of lightning while in the barn with his father and brother John at noon Friday and died instantly. Dr. E. E. Chapman attended the injured, and the family, well known locally, mourns the tragedy.

Evansport Brethren Visit Noted Masonic Session in Ohio

About thirty Masonic brethren visited Evansport Friday evening and were hosted by local residents. The event featured a fine 6 p m supper and a post work luncheon. Three candidates for the M M degree were led through by Evansport lodge with W H Hooker and T T Shaw presiding. Tuendawie participants aided in the final raise. Local attendees included numerous Evansport and Clinton area members. Relatives in Clinton search for Lottie Hess believed to be in this part of Ohio. Riverside Cemetery trustees have platted section 20 of the Catholic portion, creating more lots for sale.

Wreck of the Dom Paul on Maumee River Narrowly Averted

County Commissioner Peter Corressel and companions on the fishing trip in the Dom Paul encounter a gale in the Maumee off Island Park. The boat sinks, Miller fights to save Corressel, both men reach shore, Billie Jones Jr. escapes with shells and boots, and the party survives the perilous swim.

Obituary: Jasper Overly Dies at Home in William Center Area

Jasper Overly former North Richland township resident died at his William Center area home at 5 30 am Friday after a four or five day illness from pneumonia. He leaves a wife and 10 or 11 children. The funeral was at Independence at noon Sunday. He was brother in law of C S Morse of this city and well known in the county’s east end and city where he once did business.

Wm. Kirtley Jr. of Defiance canvasses Napoleon Republicans, promoting canal projects as advantageous and self sustaining. A large property owner and successful business figure, he seeks a seat on the board of public works, with local canal proximity lending support.

GL and M sale set aside in common pleas court

Judge J M Donnelly presided as the case to set aside the C L and M appraisal and sale was heard after Judge Hubbard was disqualified. The court rejected conclusively proving omission of railway property but allowed a sale to be set aside on condition Faurot file by May 15 a 125000 bond. If not posted the sale stands and the court adjourned to May 17. Attorneys for Atlantic Trust Co Lorain Steel Co and Faurot appeared. The rain this week was worth a million dollars to the northwest.
