The village of Ridgeville in Henry County was nearly wiped off the map by a Friday morning blaze that destroyed hardware general store grocery and several trades. Loss is estimated at 50000 with unknown insurance coverage. Fire started between two buildings and the cause remains undetermined.

Showman Meek Killed by Fast Passenger at Pleasant Bend
Reports say Dr. Meek known for schoolhouse entertainments was riding in a covered wagon when a fast train struck him at a crossing in Pleasant Bend Friday morning. The wagon horse was killed, and a window pane was damaged as the wagon and horse were mangled. The operator fled the room before the impact. Meek is a well known figure east of the city.
