Forces Bankruptcy Over Assignment to Creditors

An attorney representing small creditors forced W. V. Hutchins into involuntary bankruptcy after he assigned his assets to creditors. Three Toledo firms filed the petition: Bostwick Braun Co. for 218.50, M. L. Wilcox & Co. for 37.86, and Stoelberg Hardware Co. for 263.09. The move shifts debts into a formal bankruptcy proceeding, which reduces creditor dividends compared with a simple assignment.

Fire explodes as gas leaks at Singer Co store

Electric light failure followed by a gas leak in the J F Singer Co store causes an explosion. Charles Andrews, who lit a match to inspect the odor, is severely burned on the left face neck and eyelids, while store staff extinguish the flames with water.

Electric railways to link Defiance and Toledo by 1907

Plans for an electric railway between Toledo and Defiance gain momentum as the Cincinnati Toledo Detroit Short Line and a Toledo Defiance line file incorporation papers and seek rights of way. Builders Riggs and Sherman are involved. a Toledo Defiance Railway Co with $10 000 capital is formed in Columbus. Community notices report local illnesses, a plumber’s injury, and an extradition hearing for Ira Bryant set for March 13.
