Twenty six graduates, seventeen girls and ten boys, received diplomas at the Defiance High School commencement held at the Citizens Opera House. Honors were awarded to Ruth Marguerite Hoffman and Harry Morse, with addresses by Prof Clement Martzolf of Ohio University and student orators highlighting Ohio heritage and civic duty.

Mrs Lena Bates hosted the Ladies Society of St Pauls Lutheran church on Thursday. The White club met Friday with Miss Gertrude Hoffman hosting and trophies awarded for best scores. The Thirteen club met June 12 at Mrs S A Cravens with articles and music then refreshments. A quiet wedding occurred at the Oxenrider home for Leona Belle Bates and Frank F Rakestraw. Flora Rankin and Samuel Galliers had a granite shower hosted by Miss Zella Jefferson with games and entertainment. Common Pleas Court Judge Cameron held a brief session and the Business Mens Association planned a smoker in about a week to promote the organization and its goals.

Miss Olive Ulrich, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Ulrich born in the city, has been selected by Leoncavallo as ideal Nedda for I Pagliacci. The Italian impresario will coach her in New York with plans to tour America next season. Ulrich has starred on stage presence and vocal range, drawing praise from the composer.

Israelite travelers from the House of David headquarters at Benton Harbor Michigan conducted services on Clinton Street last week. City Council Advances Wabash and Pearl Sewer Plan
The city council met Friday to discuss a sewer on Wabash Ave and Pearl St linking to the north Clinton sewer. A 24 inch tile line would run from near Session Ave to North Clinton, funded by a future sinking fund levy of nine mills for 1907.

Defiance High School Alumni Banquet Welcomes Class of 1907
The Defiance High School Alumni Association held its annual banquet in a festively decorated hall. The class of 1907 entered to a march, with speeches by R H Sutphen and Henry B Harris. Donald Switzer spoke for the incoming class, followed by musical performances and remarks on school progress by Prof F E Reynolds and J W Winn. The event ended with dancing as the crowd enjoyed the late night festivities.

Parole Stands Over Morrison Indictment Question
The Williams county board of managers took no action to revoke Homer R. Morrison’s parole, awaiting word from the prosecuting attorney that an indictment for arson exists. Special Prosecutor R. L. Starr vowed Morrison will be tried if indicted, while Morrison’s attorney sought delay pending higher court review.
