Hills Prize Winners at Highland Picnic Races

The Highland township picnic at Grange Hall featured a foot race won by Charley Hill and a bicycle race won by Charley Hill son of Dave Hill. Marian Bell’s racer won the first heat in the horse race before Elmer Moon’s entry bolted the fence and Moon’s horse was later deemed the winner after a rerun.

Heavy Toledo Woman Hurt After Ditch Fall Near Defiance

Mrs. Leonard of Toledo visiting daughter Mrs. Langdon near Defiance fell on Grove street stepping into a shallow ditch. Weighing about 249 pounds, she injured her shoulder and right thigh with possible bone fracture. She was treated by Dr. M B Stevens and taken to her daughter’s home.

John Clinker died at his home in Tiffin township on Saturday evening at six o clock. He was 67 years, 11 months and 5 days old. The funeral was held today at 10 a m from the house with Rev. B W Slagle officiating.

Sheriff Took In Insane Man After Flight From Defiance

Sheriff John McCarty and Deputy A Behringer returned from Defiance township with R H Lambert aged about 38 who was adjudged insane after a struggle to handcuff him. Lambert had fled to the fields Sunday evening and had threatened to kill his brother in law Lem Hibbard prompting custody.

Divorce Notice and Tragic Death in Allen County

A notice stated Mrs Sylvester Breckler sought a divorce in Allen County courts. A July 8 dispatch from Delphos reports she fled with seven children to Lima while he worked, Breckler was served, and later died from a razor wound after his home was deserted. He had attempted suicide six times previously. Also advertised is a kidney health ad for Doan's Kidney Pills with a local testimonial from J C Budd of 635 Francis St praising relief and urging purchase.
