Special to Express Cincinnati Jan 8 The superior court sustains the validity of the Aikin law raising liquor tax from 300 to 1000. The ruling hinges on proper legislative records and presumes acts are right. The decision declares parol testimony cannot challenge a properly verified record and the case will be appealed.
SOCLELY J. Ray Dickman of Noble township marries Miss Dora M. re of Tuscarawas county on New Year's day at the bride's home. A reception follows and a watch party rings in the New Year with a doxology and prayer. Other social events and gatherings noted include surprise parties, games, and a 500 game among local society, plus a W C T U session planning a Frances Willard memorial.
The Board of Public Service approved bills for cemetery stone labor on streets and utilities and noted year end receipts. Frank Mains was re elected president and John Forst secretary. The board also logged 75 deaths for the year with 107 burials in Riverside and 21 city deaths sent elsewhere. Health department bills included postage, fumigation, and other services at residents' addresses.
A report in New Bavaria claims Billy Widmer is married after a Christmas wedding rumor. Neighbors staged a noisy reaction with a makeshift celebration while Billy, who allegedly killed and dressed fourteen chickens, prompted Mrs. Grundy to spread the tale as town gossip.
Conductor H. I. Bidinger of Garrett was crushed between engine and cars last Thursday on a B and O freight while coupling a car to the tender. He was taken to Garrett that evening with his wife and Dr. Powell, in critical but hopeful condition.
Ason, born to J F Lehia and Javusry 2, is noted with family. Mr and Mrs Will Trumpower return to Kendallville Indiana. Miss Louise Reinicke of Cleveland visits friends in the city. Mr and Mrs J A Peterman return from South Bend. Miss Lila Lehman returns from Cleveland after holidays. Jared Ort, visiting Richland township, heads home to New York City. H G Koeblinger and daughter Lucile return to St Wayne after holidays with Minnie Dittmer.
The New York mayor publishes a manifesto opposing Charles F. Murphy of Tammany Hall and names John T. Dooling Manhattan election commissioner. The mayor rejects existing Tammany control and signals intensified battles, with Sen. McCarren of Brooklyn backing him and more department heads likely to fall.

At about five o'clock Friday evening Mrs. A. M. Minsel was struck by a trolley wire break on Third street near Clinton. Charles Deatrick rescued her as wires swung and fire danced in front of shops. she recovered by Sunday with head injuries. A horse was knocked down but suffered no serious harm and power was restored by six that evening after repairs.

N H Rowley, who went to the Canadian oil fields last year, reports drilling a 5000 barrel well near Chatham Ontario. Canadian oil sells for $1.12 a barrel with a government bounty of 52 cents, netting $1.65 per barrel.
