Bourbon Ticket Ratified by Defiance County Democrats

The Defiance county mass convention met at 2 PM Saturday to ratify county officer nominees. Chair Hon. W. D. Hill and secretary John A. Deindoerfer led a slate listing J. M. Ainsworth for Representative, C. W. Kerns for Treasurer, Geo. F. Henning for Commissioner, H. F. Toberan for Surveyor, and F. W. Smith for Infirmary Director, with T. T. Shaw John W. Winn and Z. H. Miller on resolutions. The platform reaffirmed Columbus while endorsing Hubbard and Ainsworth, but later it was noted nominations had not been made.

Fire and stock losses strike local area in separate blazes

An Al Maag's saloon mishap triggered by gasoline caused a small blaze at Clinton street, with minor damage to Wertheimer's clothing and the building. Across Ney Creek a large Burke barn, granary, and oat stacks burned, with $2500 estimated loss and $675 insured. A five year old's barnyard fire from matches and a gale fueled hay and fence damage in Mark township follow. Threshers near Hicksville saw oats and straw saved when a wagon fire on a farm did not spread.

Missionary Meeting Examines Home Mission and Mormonism

A Baptist church gathering reviewed the American Baptist Home Mission Society founded in 1832. Mrs. Willey discussed Mormon practices, while Mrs. Jordan warned of Mormon political influence and proposed a federal anti polygamy bill. The event ended with refreshments and a social hour.

Sunday School News Roundup and Area Picnics

Sunday school notes report planned excursions to Clark's Lake Michigan on Aug 21 with train from Ney at 7:00 am and return at 5:30 pm, fare 85 cents round trip with 40 cents for children under twelve. Gatlin Returns Home From Highland Visit With Child

S. F. Gatlin, visiting his father Joseph Gatlin in Highland township for five weeks, returns to El Paso, Texas accompanied by Hazel Dickey of El Paso who has spent the summer with the Gatlin family. August Schubert, a farmer eight miles southeast of the city, was knocked down by a ferocious bull Friday and badly crippled. the bull was horned but would have killed him if not dehorned. Schubert, about 65, was unprepared for such an attack.
