He details wheat fields Montana canyons the Bitterroot range and mining and farming in Kellogg Spokane and surrounding valleys. He notes wages for miners and the evolving western economy while sharing vivid scenery and personal experiences.
At a Monday night meeting of the Security Building and Loan Co officers were elected to key posts including President Peter Kittenring and Vice President J M Prisendorfer. K V Haymaker was named secretary and E P Hooker treasurer with S T Sutphen as attorney. Committees on finance and securities were chosen with Geo W Detrick Wm Martin R Suthen J M Prisendorfer P A Baker and Will Geiger serving.

Obituary for Mrs. Joseph Immele born Mattie Slimbaugh in Defiance January 18 1878 who died August 2 1901. She married Joseph Immele October 17 1899 and leaves husband mother three sisters Bertha Rose and four brothers Will Roll Jerome Ambrose. Funeral at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Also notes on John Sheridan visiting Chattanooga using crutches, a mad dog report in Richland town, Fritz Harmening returning from Philadelphia, Defiance township trustees meeting, F M Hartshorn handling family illness, St John Catholic church groups planning fair, Henry Martin opening a San Francisco drug store, and confirmation that Fred Travis and Esther Sharp wed at Paulding June 9 1901.
The Republican central committee elected delegates for the August 8 judicial convention in this city and set September 7 for the county convention at the Defiance courthouse. Alternates were named and eleven precincts represented. The apportionment uses one delegate per 10 McKinley votes in 1900 and one per 5 votes over.

A shepherd dog owned by John Friend from the Norton farm east of the city went mad on Sunday. It bit two dogs on the Norton place and then injured two more at T. C. Elliott’s home. Elliott shot his dogs. Friend planned to kill his own but had not done so by Sunday evening. Health Officer Chapman was notified Monday after a call from North Richland township. The black and white long-haired shepherd is the suspect. police seek that breed and neighbors are urged to watch closely.
