Despite threatening weather and a heavy shower, hundreds attended the Chautauqua opening at Island Park. A severe hail storm hit Defiance Thursday evening around 6 o clock causing window damage in town and heavy crop losses in Richland township. Walnut sized stones covered the ground and shattered about ninety panes at Scharffenberger's greenhouse while Winterich reports minor glass damage.
