A severe storm hit the city Wednesday at about 11 o clock causing extensive damage at the Postal Telegraph office in the Security Building and Loan Co. on Second Street. A lightning bolt burned out several fuses and melted brass connections, temporarily knocking multiple lines offline. Manager Charles Eberle narrowly avoided injury when flames erupted as he stepped away to close a door.
