Deepwater Students Earn Awards at Spring Literary Festival
Nine Deepwater Junior High students excel at the Spring Literary Festival held at Clear Lake intermediate. Steven Wood and Greta Gieseke won first place ribbons in subjective essay. In speech, Rennie Rowan and Walter Carr secured top and third in sixth grade prose and poetry. Seventh graders Richard Jackson Bronwyn Brown and Billy Parker earned third in poetry and declamation. Eighth graders Steven Wood and Christi Boyington claimed second in prose and first in poetry. Twenty two students participated in the math competitis.

Slovacek Receives Law Degree From UH Bates College
Joseph Slovacek son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Slovacek 802 Luella earned a degree from University of Houston Bates College of Law He was inducted into the State Bar of Texas at a Memorial Day ceremony in the Texas Supreme Court Building Austin Texas Seven of the nine Supreme Court judges took part He holds an UH undergraduate degree and was active in campus life including leadership roles in the Student Bar Association and membership in the Order of the Barons Delta Theta Phi and the Bar Association scholarships awarded He and his wife Pam Yaggi reside in Houston where he joined the law firm Hoover Cox and Miller
