Certified school personnel will receive a 900 raise and non certified personnel a 10 percent increase. The starting salary for a bachelor degree teacher will be 10200 and 10900 for a teacher with a master’s. Administrators will receive the same proportional raise. The board planned to approve the budget at the July meeting after revenue figures were set.
Houston Lighting and Power spokesman A C Czigan says surveyors will build a drainage ditch from Center to Luella along Highline Road by month end if weather allows. A recently installed pipeline from the ship channel to a Webster Raycliff power plant caused drainage issues and backfill must settle before permanent facilities are added.
A summer film titled Salty will be shown at the Community Center on June 22 with two morning and afternoon showings. The Deer Park Library distributes hurricane maps from 800 pamphlets, and civic groups host events including a June 17 dinner and a Jaycees meeting. Police arrests noted for several dates in June.
Trustees vote four to two to award a 2.242 million contract to Marshall Construction Co for Heritage Elementary in the Heritage subdivision. The bid tops Span Glass and Hunt Co. with the project planned for 92,000 square feet open concept design and occupancy by July 1977.
Shell spokesman Bill Lafield says a heat medium vessel left water during a planned shutdown caused the May 10 explosion. Hot oil contacted water, rupturing a pipe and sending oil into the air where it ignited, wounding five and killing two. Damages are not yet estimated.

The June Chamber of Commerce luncheon will feature State Senator Jack Ogg who served in the Texas House from 1966 to 1972 and in the State Senate from 1972 onward. The event at Lynchburg Crossing Restaurant carries a Bicentennial theme and costs $6.50 per person.
