Boy Rescued After Near Drowning at Casa Marie Pool
A 10 year old boy nearly drowned Sunday at Casa Marie apartments when he jumped in to help his sister. Adults pulled the girl from the pool. the boy could not swim and inhaled water. Tom Weeks pulled him out and performed mouth to mouth resuscitation. He was taken to Bay shore Hospital and kept overnight for observation.

Minor Kitchen Fire and Highway Accident Report
On May 26 at 9 30 a.m. the fire department responded to a kitchen fire at a residence in the 700 block of N Kaufman. An electrical short in a built in range caused smoke but no damage. A gas leak behind a commercial building in the 700 block of Center was traced to a meter and cut off. On May 24 emergency crews attended a one truck collision in the 9000 block of Spencer Highway. the driver was freed, given first aid, and transported to a hospital in serious condition.

Deer Park ISD Opens Facilities For Public Use
Deer Park Independent School District opens its recreation facilities starting June 1 with pools on North Campus Deepwater and Deer Park Junior High open 2 to 8 PM Monday through Saturday. Admission 25 cents children 50 cents adults. Gyms at Deepwater Carpenter Lynchburg North Campus with individual hours. Volleyball for adults on North Campus B Building 6 to 9 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tennis courts at Deepwater North South Campus 25 cents per hour. All facilities closed July 5.

Grain Dump Truck Crash on Highway 225 Blocks Traffic
An eastbound grain truck and a loaded dump truck collided on Highway 225 last Thursday causing a mile long backup. The grain driver, Rick Hawthorn, 18, swerved to avoid the dump truck after brakes failed. the dump truck overturned with minor injuries to the driver. Dirt covered the roadway as wreckers and heavy equipment cleared the scene.
