Rudy Wallis Stefancik, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy T Stefancik of 3213 Village, was named to the Dean's Honor List in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas Austin. A freshman pre med major and 1975 Deer Park High School graduate.
Carpenter Elementary PTO sponsors a Friday after school popcorn sale on April 9. Bags will sell for 10 cents each.
The Pasadena Red Cross invites all swimmers aged 15 and older to enroll in a free Advanced Senior Lifesaving course held Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. April 19 to May 4 at Deer Park Junior High School 410 E Ninth St. For more information call 475-1221.
Fourteen Deer Park students named to Sam Houston State University fall Dean's List. Opening Day for Deer Park Little League April 10 with parade from Deer Park High north campus to Sadler Field and opening ceremonies. The Deer Park Library promotes National Library Week with free films and an autograph party for Barbara Weidig. Library director Lyn Benton notes Texas Library System Act progress and the library’s services. Annual budget is $123,899 with 40,000 volumes, growing about 175 monthly.
The Deer Park council approved recognitions for residents and discussed library funding. The library seeks more books, adult education, and a summer drama program with new Special Services Librarian Jane Ulrich. Voters approved April 3 results. run-off set for April 27 with Earl Dunn and Jim Kite sworn in, as Mayor Black cited state election law.
The city will flush water pipes nightly from 10 pm to 4 am on April 19 20 21 and 22 to protect equipment and ensure purity. Residents are advised to rewash laundry if rust appears, using cold water without bleach, as rusty water should clear after faucets are run.
Jim Kite defeated incumbent Gordon Robb by 150 votes to win Council Position 4. Earl Dunn, unopposed, captured 907 votes for Position 5. In Position 6, incumbents Bill McDonald and Walter Hall head to a runoff after McDonald 646 and Hall 419. Bill Chmylak had 245. Precinct tallies show Kite leading in several districts while Robb and Dunn posted strong countywide totals.
Walter Hall and incumbent Bill McDonald will square off in a run-off for Council Position 6 on April 27 after April 3 results show McDonald at 49 percent and Hall at 32 percent with Chmylak at 19 percent. A majority is needed to win.
