Deer Park ISD Bond Rating Boosted by Moody's to AA

Moody's upgrades Deer Park Independent School District to AA from A-1, signaling lower borrowing costs for a $13.5 million bond issue set for April 19. Family Survives Mobile Home Fire in Durant Block

Seven family members escaped injuries when a trailer at 4400 Durant burned early Monday. A poodle and cat were trapped. Fire reportedly started by a child playing with matches. Family lost all possessions and is staying with Deer Park Church of Christ while neighbors donate clothing and essentials.

Absentee Ballots Delayed by Printer Backlog

City Secretary Dottie Martin says absentee voting will start as soon as ballots arrive from the printers. The sole local printer is tied up with run offs and the May 1 primary, delaying when ballots can be issued. Absentee voting runs 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday in the City Secretary’s office once ballots arrive.

Construction To Begin Cable TV In Deer Park This Summer

Deer Park Mayor Bill Black announced late summer as the target to start construction of Ripley Cable Television lines after FCC approval. The firm won the franchise last November and has two years to install. Also approved: Exxon Pipeline to build two refined product pipelines, a mower bid, and a school site permit referral.

Lifesaving Course Offered by Pasadena Red Cross

The Pasadena Red Cross offers a free Advanced Senior Lifesaving Course on Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. April 19 through May 4 at Deer Park Junior High School 410 E Ninth. All good swimmers at least 15 years old may enroll.

Opti Mrs Club Donates Over Two Thousand To San Jacinto

The Opti Mrs Club presented more than 2300 dollars to San Jacinto College for a scholarship fund. Interest of about 100 to 125 dollars annually will be awarded to a student from the School District. The San Jacinto College Scholarship Committee will select the recipient. Dr. Rhea Oglesbee, Director of Financial Aid, handles the scholarship. Presenters were Mrs. J G Palmour and Mrs. A M Bagwell.

Local Banks Reissue $2 Bills for Jefferson Birthday

Deer Park banks report the return of the two dollar bill issued Tuesday in honor of Thomas Jefferson. Merchants note drawers lack a place for the bills, and the currency has not circulated since 1956.
