The new communist packed cabinet in Czechoslovakia will meet for the first time tomorrow. Premier Gottwald pledged up to 120 acres to land workers and urged higher output to meet a two year plan. Duris announced a broad farm aid program with land loans and subsidies and noted church lands to be paid for. Rally turnout fell short of expectations as state media reported 130,000 planned, then lower.
Budget Director James E Webb told the Senate Finance Committee that hard facts of international life limit big spending cuts. He testified as lawmakers consider the House approved 6.5 billion dollar tax cut for this year. Secretary Snyder opposed the bill and backed Truman era cost of living tax credit plan.
Ingalls shipyards at Decatur has enough contracts to run through August, announced by Decatur civic leader John Patterson after talks with Robert Palmer of Birmingham. The yard will build 21 vessels, employing about 300, up from 175 now, with Fred Huntoon as general superintendent. Contracts include oil barges for Thurston Crawford of Columbus and several self propelled boats for Creole Corporation, plus barges for Inland Waterways, Martin Oil, and Carbide & Carbon Chemical Corp. The Decatur yard, near inland waterways, has grown with TVA revival and maritime development along the Tennessee River.
The United States and Britain retain their wartime combined chiefs of staff in a high level, guarded Pentagon headquarters. The body standardizes weapon types, coordinates across services, and handles postwar planning for missiles and atomic weapons through seven members, four American and three British.

Nine capital cases are scheduled for trial in the March term of Morgan circuit court. Judge Newton Powell presides as arraignments occurred Saturday with all defendants pleading not guilty. Cases include first degree murder charges against James Campbell Virgil Wimberley and Charlie Moore and robbery charges against Jesse Glenn Clyde Miller. Fred White faces murder charges in a February 21 incident. Jessie Oldacre case noted as well.
State National Bank will open three new drive in wickets costing about 10000. Customers can speak to tellers, conduct transactions from their car, with bulletproof glass and revolving discs that keep openings on the customer side.

A 1947 Federal truck reported stolen from Plant Motors on Lee Street Saturday night was found abandoned on Lone View Hill in Cullman by Highway Patrol units Sunday. Investigators say the vehicle was left there after midnight Saturday and Sgt W B Little expects arrests soon.
In Atlanta on March 1, Seneca Bailey requested five days leave from the naval air Station personnel officer. Lt. L D Morgan asked for the reason and Bailey replied his wife had triplets. Morgan immediately doubled the leave to 15 days.
