The House and Elections Committee today killed a bill requiring audits of labor unions but kept another measure to repeal Alabama's right to work law alive for two weeks. The action followed a public hearing on both bills.
Decatur is proposed as a site for a Federal Court in a bill before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. The measure, HR 5252, is sponsored by Morgan County attorney Bloodworth who, as president of the Morgan County Bar Association, urged Rep. Emanuel Celler to favor action. Bloodworth also asks Morgan County lawyers to support the effort, noting Decatur’s central location and rail access.
The Defense Department report states the Air Force regards the B52 as the best bomber today and notes fighters can move globally. It covers air strength through Dec 31 and highlights a plan to expand to 137 wings, with the B52 nearing air readiness.

The crowd with SOS tags pressed for ending all sales tax exemptions and removing federal income tax deductions to finance a 43 million dollar yearly expansion and a 600 dollar raise for about 24 000 teachers.
The Senate narrowly defeated President Eisenhower’s atomic peace ship plan by one vote as all Republicans supported the President. Senator Anderson said the 42-41 tally ends the project, with promises of future development of an economical atomic engine for large ships. Republicans sought 21 million dollars for a demo reactor.
