Probe Ordered Of Bond Sale In Alabama
State examiners were ordered by the legislative committee on public accounts to probe the sale of state bonds below appraised value. Chief Examiner Ralph Eagerton said $473,000 in bonds were sold from the state insurance fund to Birmingham firm Watkins, Morrow and Company for about $25,000 to $27,000 under market price. Money from the sale would be reinvested in U S treasury bonds for higher returns. The committee took no action, though Speaker W M Beck urged charging officials if a higher price should have been obtained.
