Liquor Board Plans Loss on Surplus Brandy
The Alabama liquor board prepared to take a loss on 3,000 cases of brandy bought during the war. Board official E. E. Purvis Jr. said the state holds about 5,200 cases of brandy, mildewing in storage, selling only 200 monthly. A $20 per case offer from Wisconsin monopolies and private exports was noted, down from a cost of about $33. The board voted to unload 3,000 cases at $20, leaving remaining stock unsold.
