First Farm in Morgan County Embraces SCS Plan
Jake Stephenson of Hartselle Route 1 recalls being the first Morgan County farmer to adopt a Soil Conservation District farm plan prepared with the Northwest Alabama Soil Conservation District. The plan, created in 1942 with F M Patton, focuses on soil improvement, sericea, clover and other conservation crops, expanding crops while maintaining cotton yields and establishing a unit test demonstration with Extension Service and TVA collaboration.
