Thousands Visit Guntersville Dam During May
More than 46 000 people visited Guntersville Dam in May according to TVA safety staff. About 13 000 registered at the lock or power house and some 33 000 fished from the banks. May 1948 registrations more than doubled May 1947. Visitors included thirty school groups from North Alabama, one service club, and a couple from Copenhagen en route to Canada.

Two Wounded In Ship Fight At Honolulu Harbor
June 8. Two sailors were wounded aboard the Liberty Ship Angus McDonald during a seaman’s brawl as the freighter neared the harbor. James Patiste, 35, of Algiers, La, was shot in the chest, and Willie Grover, 49, a steward from St. Petersburg, was shot in the left arm. Both were taken to Tripler General Hospital. The ship had turned back to port after Captain O L Snodgrass reported an uncontrollable crew.
