Slaton's 604 Vine Street East home damaging the roof, while a jig under a steel barge at Ingalls Shipbuilding caught fire from a blowtorch and caused light damage. No material loss at Ingalls. Lester L. Baker of Eva Alabama serves as a fireman apprentice aboard the aircraft carrier Rendova on a world cruise. Rendova departed San Francisco on April 1 to deliver U.S. planes to the Turkish government and will sail via the Suez Canal visiting Aden Bahrain Arabia Colombo Ceylon Singapore Manila and Honolulu before returning to San Diego in July. The ship named for Rendova Island is commanded by Captain T R Frederick and commissioned October 22 1945.
