The Church of First Presbyterian Foreign Mission Study sessions today tomorrow at 2 p m and Monday Tuesday at 2 p m with a dinner honoring the Foreign Mission Field Wednesday at 6 p m. Three cases were on docket for police recorder's court this morning for disorderly conduct and intoxication on a public street. See Diary on Page 2.
Washington The Senate Agriculture subcommittee opened consideration of a bill to ease 1955 cotton acreage cuts after the House approved a 3 percent increase in total plantable land. The Agriculture Department set the 1955 cotton support price at 90 percent of parity as southern growers press for relief.
The Decatur Daily corrects a previous report that Frances Mahaffey kept the peace charge, not assault with intent to murder. A peace proceedings warrant was issued by Justice of the Peace B. F. Wear and signed by Leatrice Vance after a nearby argument. no threat to kill is alleged.
Gov. James E. Folsom thanked the Alabama Legislature for approving a 50 million road program and sent the three bill package for his signature. The special session recessed after reaching a largely party line vote, with amendments limiting bonds to 25 million and farm fuel exemptions proposed.
Governors address planned as the senate and house prepare a sine die adjournment to end the special session just before a month. Reliable sources expect Folsom to issue a new call for March 3 focusing on old age pensions rising to 50 dollars monthly and potentially reshaping the industrial development agenda.
Police report a theft from a car on Tower Street overnight. About $123.50 in quarters was taken from an Expansion Victive box left in the vehicle. the owner is M. B. Mazer of 1502 Tower Street. Officers are investigating the incident.

A Knoxville high school senior and private pilot Ted dy Ray Jarnagin, 18, disappeared on a Knoxville to Chattanooga flight and was later found dead beside his small plane on Walden's Ridge, 14 miles southwest of Spring City Tennessee. The wreckage was located by farmer Clem Thurman after he thought he heard a crash the night of February 11 while the youth aimed to gain flying time for a commercial license and hoped to become a flying missionary.
London dispatch reports United States pledge to pursue an honest workable disarmament deal with Russia while warning optimism is slim. Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. led the mission at a five power conference, urging Soviet cooperation and suggesting a concrete contribution to a UN stockpile of fissionable material.
Arthur W. Lucas of Chemstand Corp. in Decatur accepts a six year seat on the Decatur General Hospital Board. He replaces J. Elliott Peck. current members include E. W. Strother and Raymond Britain. Lucas, a Paterson New Jersey native, is a 1941 Fordham Law graduate and former Standard Brands assistant treasurer. He and his wife with three children live on Brookemeade Rd and he is a Decatur Lions Club member.
Police probe theft of 1304.06 cash and checks from Allied Sales Co. at 16 SE Johnston St. The money was hidden in two bank sacks tied together and dropped in a gap near the counter. Sgt. C. M. Kennedy and Officer Alex Terry pursue leads after owner J. P. Garnett says the thief knew where to find the funds.
Decatur High School senior Joan Hoppenjans won the District competition of the American Legion Oratorical Contest held in Cullman. She earned the prize for her speech The Constitution Speaks, adding to previous Decatur High and Morgan County victories. Tom Harvey leads American Legion Post 15, sponsor of the event.

Alabama legislators consider constitutional amendments to allow the Legislature to end mandatory public schooling and direct tuition and transportation aid to pupils, white and Negro, enabling private schooling without compulsory racial mixing. The interim committee urges swift action if integration becomes voidable. An anti segregation resolution appears on page 2.

Churches including First Baptist Westminster Presbyterian and Nazarene will host 3 p.m. services with leaders Mrs. Reeves Corbin and McCulloch. Taiwan Formosa dispatch reports all civilians withdrawn from Nanchishan, a Red-threatened island outpost 140 miles north of Formosa. The move appears to precede a military evacuation amid easing tension with China.
A three room house on Highway 31 north of Deer Springs burned to the ground before Hartselle firemen arrived. Mrs Leon Niles and two of her three children were in the backyard when warners alerted them. Cause undetermined. Mr Niles works for Alabama Brick and Tile Co Decatur. The seven year old daughter was in school. Fire department alerted at 9 20 a m.
Manila Pact nations convene in Bangkok to implement the Southeast Asia Defense Treaty against Communist aggression. A Council of Representatives, a military affairs committee, and working papers on mutual aid, anti subversion, and intel exchange are formed as Dulles notes future security roles.
Birmingham report says Russell County Courthouse caretaker Quinnie Kelley saw ex prosecutor Arch Ferrell dash from a driveway near the post office shortly after three shots rang out on June 18. The witness placed the time at 9 05 p m and said Fuller had earlier fled in a waiting car after gunfire. The testimony follows earlier links between Albert Fuller and profits from Phenix City's vice empire in a continued murder trial coverage.
The Decatur High Band performs Friday at 8 pm in the high school gym presenting Our United States March, Wi Ding, and Tchaikovsky Overture 1812. Proceeds fund travel to the State Band Contest in Tuscaloosa in April.
