Coroner Rules In Riley Death
The Christmas Eve death of Fred L. Riley, 35, deputy sheriff of Moulton Alabama, is ruled a personal safety related wound. The coroner found no foul play and could not determine if accidental or intentional. Riley was found by his wife with a .38 pistol on the bed next to him. The coroner notified Circuit Judge Crow, Circuit Judge Powell, and Circuit Solicitor Johnson Jr. of his findings after a thorough investigation.

Contract For Fill To Be Let On U S 31 Section
A letting for an earth fill on the Lacon Cullman sector of U S 31 may occur in January or February. Grading and drainage of the sector are about 80 percent complete. The fill will bridge Hurricane Creek and involve about 500000 yards of material, possibly the largest such structure in Alabama, replacing a 580 foot long bridge with a 150 foot drop. Work by the Hardaway Construction Company on the Lacon segment continues.
