James H. Orr 30, a Birmingham high school teacher, leaped from an 11th floor window at the Roosevelt hotel in New Orleans. A large skylight netting broke his fall but left him critically injured with internal damage. He survived after an emergency operation and was said to have health problems prompting his act. Orr had registered under a false name and left a note for family before the jump.
