J W Vanderberg 68 and wife 45 along with daughters Pauline 18 and Louise 20 and son Robert 12 die in a house fire in Gaston County. Jacob Vanderberg ? said he woke to smoke and found his mother dead then escaped with a suitcase and shotgun claiming innocence. Investigators say the scene shows a fatal blaze with multiple victims and an unclear arson motive.

Neal Golden of Lincoln County dies in a hospital as the second victim of the Kelso church meeting shooting. Floyd Steelman, 22, was killed. A. J. Boy Shoots Gun Wounding Seven Hemphill Workers
In Suggsville Alabama on December 29 a six year old boy, son of J M Rhodes company officer, fired a shotgun into a line of Hemphill Company workers at the pay clerks window. Seven employes were injured, some seriously, as buckshot struck the group while the boy, playing with the weapon, reportedly pulled the trigger and was unharmed.
