W J Duncan Jr pled guilty to three charges under the Warehouse Receipts Act and received six years in the penitentiary. He agreed with the State to not press 33 other related cases arising from alleged improper operation of the Alabama Bonded Warehouse where he served as president.
Birmingham. University of Alabama trustees argued in Federal Court they acted within constitutional powers when expelling Autherine Lucy Foster on February 29. They answered contempt charges for refusing to readmit the first African American student at the university.
Workers in several large Budapest factories announced a nationwide general strike for tomorrow to resist the Soviet sponsored government. The government barred international telephone calls from Budapest, hindering Western reporters from sending dispatches.

President Eisenhower decried Soviet brutality in Hungary on Human Rights Day and urged free peoples to remember tyranny, calling it a worldwide mourning event that repudiates the UN human rights declaration on its eighth anniversary.
The United States and 15 other nations urged the U.N. General Assembly to condemn the Soviet government for violating the U.N. Charter by denying Hungary its independence and rights. The proposal calls for immediate withdrawal of Soviet armed forces from Hungary under U.N. observation and restoration of Hungary’s political independence.
A Moulton man, David Terry, about 35, sustained abrasions and slight head injuries in a one car crash inside the city limits yesterday around 5 30 p m He was treated and released from Lawrence County Hospital. The accident occurred on Highway 36 just north of the business section with Terry driving south.

Lawrence deputies arrest a man for drunkenness near Hillsboro at 1 a.m. Sunday. On returning to their car at a nearby truck stop the pair发现 the handcuffs valued at about 15 dollars had disappeared with the arrestee still cuffed, the sheriff said.
