Lawrence board chairman C. C. McWhorter was found not guilty of embezzlement and prosecutors dropped 13 related charges. Board member Marvin Bendall also had two embezzlement counts dismissed as the term ends. Testimony focused on alleged misuse of county equipment rather than pocketing funds.

Late today a car skidded and overturned on the Huntsville highway east of Mooresville injuring three people. Jerry Courtney 17 Henderson Kentucky Richard Mullins 20 Capels West Virginia and Mark Hayes were treated at Decatur General Hospital for abrasions and lacerations. Courtney and Mullins were not seriously hurt while Hayes condition was listed as unknown.
Gov. James E. Folsom appoints Pleas P. Looney as state industries development director succeeding the late Lt. Gen. Lewis A. Pick in Montgomery.
Washington announced a one billion dollar borrowing to fund part of the potential financial aid to Britain. The move aims to cover anticipated aid expenses as Britain seeks access to funds.
In New York two men convicted in the acid blinding of labor writer Victor Riesel received five year terms. A third defendant drew a two year sentence.
Three Lawrence County traffic crashes in two days left one seriously hurt. John L Lipsy fifteen fractured skull after a 1 10 p m collision on Mt Moriah Road north of Mt Moriah. Lipsy rushed to University Hospital for brain surgery in Birmingham.
Officials from Decatur and Huntsville discussed a potential joint airport serving Madison and Morgan counties along with surrounding areas. No action was taken as planners stressed long range development, with a terminal sized for 25 to 30 years ahead. A follow up meeting was tentatively set for January with regional mayors and county chairs invited.
