Morgan County launches a 5-Year Farm Plan aimed at boosting farmer incomes and expanding opportunities for all farms. County Agent B. G. Hall and assistants detail diversification on pages two of The Daily’s farm edition. The issue circulates to every farm home for study and discussion with farm agencies.
Berlin reports say Hitler called in top aides and cabinet members for a late afternoon meeting while Britain and Poland move toward mediation. Germany welcomes mediation offers from Queen Wilhelmina and King Leopold and signals readiness to negotiate with Britain and Poland on Danzig and the corridor.
Senator E F Hildreth announced he would request indefinite postponement of the anti closed shop measure in Alabama. He cited doubt the goal can be met without harming conservative labor groups, following a talk with Governor Frank Dixon. The bill had been favorably reported by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
A committee began weighing a senate approved measure to raise the truck weight limit from 20 000 to 28 000 pounds seeking a middle ground between requests for 40 000 and no change. Administrations leaders back the compromise as a step to move a controversial bill forward.

The National Cotton Council begins its plan in Morgan County aiding ginners producers and shippers with contributions and a united front to keep cotton as a leading cash crop. Oscar Johnson leads the national unit in Washington seeking subsidies for cotton seed. Pred Hunt Jr is named Morgan county chair with other members listed in Decatur and nearby areas.
Rev. E. T. Town and Aaron Montgomery returned from New Orleans where they attended the district Lutheran convention. They called the meeting most interesting and said much good was accomplished.
Subscribers to the proposed Decatur cheese plant elected seven directors led by W. W. Dinamore W. G. Peebles Charles Eyster Barrett Shelton Leroy McEntire and RK. EB. Rogers with McEntire chosen secretary treasurer The group planned payrolls and mailing stock checks while aiming to start operations soon to create a new North Alabama market for farm products.
President Roosevelt met with the newly formed war resources board headed by Edward R. Stettinius Jr. Louis Johnson and Charles Edison joined the session. He monitored European crisis developments with frequent telephone checks from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

European Bulletin reports the destroyer J. Fred Talbott ordered into Gatun Lake near the Panama Canal as a precaution during the European crisis. Lord Lothian says Europe has improved but peace remains the bet. King George inspects war preparations in private visit. Paris evacuates 50,000 pupils as war danger mounts. Slovak government surrenders powers to German military on Poland’s southern frontier.
Eighteen pursuit planes based at Selfridge Field Michigan were ordered by the War Department to fly immediately to the Panama Canal. Maj Harold H George will command the squadron of Curtiss P-36 planes. The ships and select Selfridge personnel will be stationed permanently at the Canal Zone.
Large attendance at First Christian Church as Birmingham pastor Dr Ewart Wyle preaches to inspire devotion with messages like We Dare To Love and The Far Country. Tonight focuses on The Far Country. Womens Night is tomorrow with The Call to Arms.
Morgan county health department today reminded residents of the office clinic hours for typhoid diphtheria and smallpox vaccines on Second Avenue. Vaccinations are given all Thursdays and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays to prevent confusion.
A group of visiting ministers led by Rev. E Bergt of Tampa Rev. E Dram mer of Gainesville and Rev. E Lammert of Florence was in Decatur today. After spending the morning here the pastors will proceed to the Tri-Cities.
Los Angeles police plan a grand jury presentation with sound reenactments of the alleged attack on Anya Soseyeva and subsequent crimes by De Witt Clinton Cook. District Attorney Baron Fitts says Cook confessed to murder and other robberies, claiming about 300 burglaries in two years.
Paris and London reported moves on the German Polish crisis with Britain sending its note to Berlin and France requisitioning the entire railway system for military use. Berlin and London officials would not reveal details while discussions centered on whether Poland would negotiate with Germany and if troop withdrawals would condition talks. Unclear signs persisted of diplomatic flexibility despite heavy European military mobilization and a Soviet stamina buildup on the western front.
The Tennessee River stood at 18.1 feet and fell. Temperatures ranged from 67 to 90 degrees with no rainfall. Alabama and northwest Florida saw partly cloudy skies tonight with variable winds along the coast. Tennessee reported partly cloudy conditions with similar trend into Thursday.
