A Saturday morning traffic accident disrupted John J. Griffith of Detroit as he traveled to Florida in a 1948 Dodge towing a house trailer. The trailer, bound south on Highway 31, was struck by a 1947 International truck driven east on Moulton Street by Andrew Kent of 618 Eleventh Avenue West. The trailer's right side was holed and the truck suffered heavy damage. Investigating officers were C. M. Kennedy and Alex Terry.
A New York two day wildcat bus drivers strike ended with workers returning pending negotiations. The walkout also shut down St. Louis transit, paralyzing the eighth largest city as 350000 passengers lost service on 16 lines. CIO TWU leader James O Shea said crews resumed work amid talks. TWU president Michael J Quill called the strike illegal.

Officers said the Chevrolet pulled out in front of the Oldsmobile.
Lawrence county will use the old beat lines and voting boxes for a special democratic primary August 29. Charles A. Young, chairman, said Attorney General Carmichael advised the move is legal after the committee asked for guidance. The primary chooses the county party nominee for the county solicitor race. The May 2 results were clouded by a special grand jury probe into possible malpractice by election officials and errors found in the process.

U S Eighth Army reports evacuation of the Pohang airstrip on Korea s east coast after two days of battle to hold the field. American planes have begun leaving as North Korean forces push nearer the area with tanks and mortar fire. Ground situation remains unclear and the evacuation may be temporary.
Nashville telegraph reports doctors police and Eastern Airlines joined to save 21 month old Jane Logan Brazleton of Tuscumbia Alabama after she swallowed three pennies. Dr Guy Maness operated at Vanderbilt Hospital with prompt police escort and fast transport from Sheffield to Nashville. The child left the hospital at 7 30 pm in good condition minus the pennies.
Washington August 12 In brief the status of reservists and National Guardsmen called to active duty Army Reserve units include an undisclosed number of units smaller than a division being called up. Individual reservists not in organized units total 9 444 officers being involuntarily called with 7 862 captains and lieutenants across 16 arms and services. The rest 1 582 hold ranks to major in medical medical service corps lieutenant colonel in dental corps and major in veterinary corps. 62 000 enlisted reservists not in organized units will be called in September and October for 21 months duty. Women reservists nurses corps and WACS not yet involuntarily called. National Guard ground forces include four divisions and two regimental combat teams called into service the 28th infantry Pennsylvania the 40th infantry California the 43rd infantry Vermont Connecticut and Rhode Island and the 45th infantry Oklahoma plus the 196th South Dakota and 278th Tennessee regimental combat teams. Air units have no announced call up but limited ground support groups may be called to aid mobilized guardsmen. Marines Reserve units all organized.
North Korean forces struck across the Naktong near Taegu with 600 to 800 troops in two new crossings as U S Air Force planes left Pohang. The 60,000 strong push threatened U N positions and supply routes, with Taegu’s vicinity and the West front the likely focal points of an all-out offensive.

Equipment to effect traffic control campntations of traffic engineers here has been ordered announced by Mary Delmore. Nathan Pryor authorized the ordering of this equipment. The lights will be placed at intersections Sherman Street Fourth Avenue Gordon Drive and at Jackson Street Second Avenue Second Street Gordon Drive with timing readjusted. The Second Avenue lamps will be moved to Bank Street. Installation expected in nine weeks with December target. Timing aims to move traffic through the business district with minimal stops at 25 mph to clear all lights.
Lawrence County Sheriff George Byars notes the quietest day in months with no arrests. In Limestone County three people were arrested for drunken driving violations public drunkenness and prohibition law violations per deputy Leslie Nelson. Cullman reports one arrest for public drunkenness. Decatur City officers detained two on intoxication on public streets. Morgan County deputies held four suspects for vagrancy public drunkenness prohibition violations and drunken driving.
