Redistribution plan for Courtenay district gains approval

Courtenay and Surrounding District notices show Messrs McPhee and Cleland advising Victoria on the new redistribution bill. The Board of Trade endorses keeping the southern boundary and placing Denman and Hornby Islands in Comox, with a line to the Fiftieth Parallel, proposing a McKenzie district centered on Campbell River and linked by boat to Vancouver. Port Alice moves to Alberni, with broad political support for a fair division.

Hard problem for Courtenay electors to solve

Courtenay ratepayers debate next year's mayor and council members. The crowd calls for a businesslike, economical city government, with focus on prudent use of taxpayers money and utilities revenue. Several names are floated for mayor and council roles, including Embleton Kerton Field Macdonald Simms Hagarty Booth Bramley Fielder and the Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department.

Delightful Whist Drive by Native Sons of Canada

Last Wednesday night the Native Sons of Canada hosted a whist drive with fourteen tables. Ladies first prize went to Mrs. William Booth, second to Mrs. Leonard Roberts, and consolation to Mrs. Boomer. Gentlemen’s first prize was won by Mr. F. McPherson, second by Mr. Thomas Woods, consolation by Mr. W. M. Moore. After cards, refreshments followed and a jolly hour and a half dance, with music led by Mr. Les Moody.
