Hearings Held for Martell Policyholders on Unpaid Assessments
Ellsworth hearings began for about 380 Martell Town Mutual policyholders facing unpaid assessments totaling 479000 dollars. Special deputy liquidator Gary Bakke said 12 percent of 3200 polices unpaid. most large assessments paid earlier, leaving 8 percent of total due. A second assessment aimed to raise 2654000 dollars, with 2690883 collected to date and 235000 in unpaid assessments plus 244000 in interest and penalties.

Amery Team Wins Tri County Soil Judging Meet
Amery claimed first place in the Tri County Land Judging contest held October 6 at Martin Binfet farm near Fox Creek. Six teams competed: Amery Clear Lake Unity Grantsburg Siren and Shell Lake. Top Amery team members were Jamie Berry Dawn Christensen Gwen Betzold and Kevin Stauner with Christensen the meet’s high scorer at 301 of 400. Clear Lake finished second led by Kevin Altoff Brian Fouks Gerald Burton and Dennis Christensen. Shell Lake placed third with Tim Marcyzanik Bob Anderson Dave Kempin and Brian Dahlstrom.
