Earl Kohler differ on many ag issues debate summary

Wisconsin gubernatorial candidates Tony Earl and Terry Kohler debated farm policy, each arguing about insider versus outsider perspectives. Earl emphasized knowledge of state government and sensitivity of officials to farmers, while Kohler urged fresh outside insight and the need to limit dairy price supports in favor of market forces. Both stressed federal policy's dominant role in dairy outcomes and cited the value of grassroots experience in leadership.

Friends raise cattle to aid Herbison family in Pierce County

The Herbison Family Benefit ends with cattle donations and cash contributions to replace 133 cattle poisoned by Dyronate-laced silage. By Tuesday about 40 head of cattle had been donated, totaling over 1700 dollars in the Plum City Bank of Spring Valley fund. A benefit dance drew about 500 people and a locked cash box yielded substantial donations. The effort included 20 heifers, 15 steers, and one registered Holstein bull from donors and truckers, with donations also coming from Barron County farmers. The community described the drive as uniting residents and family members who signed a two-month-old calf gifted to the Herbison family.
