International Harvester Shrinks Core Businesses to Farm Gear
International Harvester began a restructuring to trim its scope to core operations in trucks and farm equipment. It agreed to sell construction equipment plants in Illinois and Quebec to Dresser Industries for 100 million dollars, moves aimed at shedding a heavy loss and escaping Caterpillar-dominated market dynamics. Analyst Eli Lustgarten notes the company, despite a 350 million dollar book loss, may emerge stronger from the deal.
