Cattle Inventories Fall to 116.3 Million Jan 1 1978
Purdue economist David C. Petritz notes a record drop from 132 million head in January 1975 to 116.3 million on January 1 1978. He projects further declines of about two million this year with prices rising 20 percent due to heavy liquidation and strong red meat demand.

Soils fertilization meeting planned
A soils fertilization meeting will begin at 1 30 pm March 21 at the Boyceville Fire Station. Farm management agent Milo Olson said Dr. Roger Swanson of UW River Falls will speak on fertilizing corn and alfalfa. He notes one dollar of fertilizer typically yields 3 to 4 dollars in crop gains and that 1977 high yields may prompt farmers to reassess fertilizer needs for 1978 amid price pressures.
