Wisconsin Cons Congress backs snagging ban proposal
The proposed statewide ban on snagging fish cleared another hurdle after approval by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress Great Lakes Study Committee. Originating with the DNR at communities along Lake Michigan, the plan seeks board approval in January. Snagging, once allowed to salvage spawning fish, drew litter and problems as interstate anglers increased, leading to bans in many areas. Public hearings preceded the board decision.

DNR Eyes Size Restrictions After District Reviews
Department of Natural Resources officials review sport fish limits across six districts. In Cumberland muskies may face a 36 inch size rule with reports of more muskies over 32 inches and better angler catches. Park Falls bluegill aims to raise size by cutting harvest and panfish bag limits to 20 per day with only five over eight inches. Bass size limits are also under consideration statewide. More than half of spring congress anglers back tighter rules for better size and catch rates even if fewer fish are kept.
