The Dickerson case adjourned to 8:30 am Thursday to allow Judge Eason to select additional names for the jury. Testimony not to begin until Monday. witnesses excused until then. Sessions opened with Samuel Hagans excused for disability, John Burris questioned, Jonathan Ely questioned. Ely had grand jury links and opinions but claimed impartiality.
The list of jurors chosen to hear the Ben Digkerson case includes Jacob Crile Crawford W R Crooks Monroe L F Kreider Virginia J L Whiteside Oxford Wm McCune Oxford John Burris Oxford James C Douglass city W H Burrell Bethlehem Judge Voorhees and Mr Glenn discuss per the state and defense. Burris testified on cross examination he lived in Newcomeratown until two years ago and claimed no opinion on the case. He was accepted by both sides and sworn in as the sixth juror at 8 55. The jury was half filled.
Coshocton ministers take a lively interest in Ben Dickerson's trial with several present at every session and only one of two missing any minute of the case.
In Columbus on February 28 the Ohio House defeated multiple tax and election measures. Representative Lybarger of Coshocton spearheaded the repeal effort, arguing the inheritance tax law is unjust and should be repealed, while the Reed bill sought to raise exemptions from 3000 to 10000. The session also saw defeat for the Bronson primary proposal and county auditor pay cut, with the Senate approving a railroad relief association bill as noted.
The Belpre divorce case of Myrtle Shipp versus Greenberry J. Shipp opens in Common Pleas Court before Judge Jones. Attorney Wheeler appeared in court Wednesday despite a frog in his throat. He pressed his case with brisk cough touches while wearing a usual raiment enhanced by a feathered cloth at his neck, which hung rakishly behind.
W. M. Crawford of Bloomfield unloads a car of building material and expects to erect a planing mill in Coshocton soon. The project aims to boost local construction capacity and boost economic activity.
The Age forecast proves true as no jury is selected for Ben Dickerson. Four jurors Monday, one lone juror Tuesday. Mr McCune stands alone. By Tuesday night five of 22 called, with 44 names needed for ten jurors. Attorneys seem to favor local geography, yet only one juror from near the crime area. Western county voters have largely been excluded, with more to be called from the tabooed neighborhood.
Coshocton county farmer Michael Leavengood died Tuesday at his New Bedford home at age 63. Born July 5 1842 he served in the Civil War and leaves wife Bila Lower seven of eight children. Heart trouble followed by Brights disease led to his death after a six year illness. Funeral Friday at 10 p.m. at Reformed Church New Bedford with Rev F E B Lahr officiating.
Chief of Police maps the consul's inquiry from the British consulate in Philadelphia about Benjamin Sheard a 59 year old coal miner living with friends in the city since last October He seeks aid to return to England claiming relatives in Yorkshire will help during hard times The consulate offers passage if he proves his destitution and appears at the consulate in Philadelphia.

In Pittsburg on February 25 a conference of bituminous coal operators convened led by Francia Robbins to discuss suspending April wages and possibly concessions for miners. Independent operators oppose wage increases, arguing the market remains worse than two years ago, risking a three-way clash among miners, the Pittsburg Coal Co, and independents.
