Editor S M Stockslager recalls Morgan's raid and the attempted crossing at Brandenburg on the Ohio River. He notes Home Guards from Mauckport, Leavenworth artillery, and a night march to block the crossing. Two Harrison County men, James H Current and George Nance, were killed by Confederate fire. He questions how a single cannonsman might have crippled the Alice Dean and delayed Morgan’s forces.
